Another example of unfounded hysteria about guns :: 02/06/2017
“Dozens of college students, professors and activists warned Thursday that failing to stop concealed weapons on campus will lead to more shootings and volatile situations…” So began the lead article on the front page of the January 27, 2017 edition of The Topeka Capital-Journal. While perhaps not qualifying precisely as false news, it comes pretty close.
These people did not warn us of anything. Like the priestess at Delphi, they had no true ability to determine any future events. Instead, despite the undeserved implication of credibility, what they more accurately did was speculate, conjecture and fantasize…but their dire predictions are no more valid than those of Apollo’s oracle, or even someone who avows that numerous students wearing blue will result in the appearance of a herd of unicorns.
What can be said about concealed firearms carried legally on campus is that, in the five states where it is currently the law, there have been no incidents of criminal violence related to the activity. Like the predictions of “blood in the streets” that emanate from the left with the introduction of every firearm/self defense initiative, this too looms as nothing more than another example of unfounded hysteria.
