Blast from the Past: A gun ban would only increase gun violence :: 03/07/2015

Mr. Miller is committed to reducing the flow of illegal weapons pouring into Camden from Philadelphia. But it is simple economics that the black market increases in direct correlation to increases in gun control.
It is the gun-ban crowd - not "weak laws that encourage illegal trafficking", as Mr. Miller says - that has, in effect, created the black market that puts guns in the hands of criminals.
We can all sympathize with Mr. Miller, who tragically lost his brother Michael in 1994 to a deranged street thug. Special Agent Michael Miller was killed in the line of duty. Agent Miller was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but attacking law-abiding gun owners will not settle that score.
The gun control to which Bryan Miller has devoted his life disarms only the law-abiding and thereby gives criminals greater predatory confidence. This makes the job of law enforcement that much more difficult.
Criminal laws against murder, rape, robbery and other violent crimes already impose appropriate restrictions on the use of any weapon.
In Bucks, my home county, 40 percent of adults reportedly have concealed-carry permits - a natural right of all citizens that's unavailable in New Jersey.
It's as if New Jersey politicians - with the help of elitists such as Bryan Miller who seem to know what's best for everyone else - distrust citizens more than they fear rapists and murderers.
Lawful gun owners are among the most disciplined, responsible, safety conscious and courteous people. They are the single most law-abiding segment of our society.
If Mr. Miller truly desires to make New Jersey safer, he'll let brave law enforcement officers like his late brother do their job and stop trying to impose his superior wisdom and virtue on others.
