Bloomberg to spend $100 million in effort to flip the House :: 09/28/2018
Mike Bloomberg is digging deeper into his vast fortune and will spend $100 million to try to flip the House to Democratic control in the midterm elections, according to a report Thursday.
The billionaire former mayor had earlier pledged to cough up $80 million.
But Axios reported that he’s adding another $20 million as he considers a White House run in 2020.
Bloomberg spent $65 million during the 2016 elections.
The spending won’t come as a surprise to New Yorkers, who saw him tear through a total of $268 million on his three mayoral campaigns, while contributing $263 million to cultural and civic groups.
Forbes estimated his net worth at $53 billion.
Bloomberg, 76, first ran for mayor as a Republican. He then switched his registration to unaffiliated, but maintained an alliance with the GOP and ran on the party line during his three successful mayoral campaigns.
But his views are more in sync with Democrats on issues from gun control to climate change to abortion rights.
