Columbine Survivor Pushes for Guns in Schools, Putting Us in an Awkward Position :: 02/24/2016
Colorado State Rep. Patrick Neville, a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, said more of his friends would have survived the attack if his teachers had been armed. There is not much we can say to that, is there?
“The only thing that is going to stop murderers intent on doing harm is to give good people the legal authority to carry a gun to protect themselves and our children,” he said in a statement to The Hill. “More of my friends would still be alive today.”
On Tuesday, Neville introduced a bill that would allow people with concealed carry permits to bring their guns into schools in an attempt to protect against future shootings. The same bill, also introduced by Neville, failed to make it past the House last year.
“Parents wake up everyday and bring their children to school on the blind faith that their kids will return home safe,” the statement continued. “Unfortunately, the current system continues to leave our children as sitting targets for criminals intent on doing harm.”
