D.C. felon gets 3 years for buying guns through straw purchasers :: 06/08/2017

A District of Columbia man was sentenced Wednesday to three years and one month in prison for conspiracy to make false statements on records kept by licensed firearms dealers.

According to a Justice Department news release, 31-year-old Nicholas Loukas previously pleaded guilty to the charges, admitting that in September 2015 he asked other individuals to purchase guns for him. Loukas was unable to purchase or possess firearms due to a 2002 robbery conviction.

When buying the guns, Loukas had the straw purchasers list their names on the forms required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives so that his own name would not be recognized.

Four handguns were purchased for Loukas at Shooter’s Roost in Beckley, West Virginia. Loukas also had another handgun purchased for him at J & S Pawn in Beckley.

Law enforcement officers recovered a shotgun and another handgun that Loukas also illegally possessed.
