For Pa. Senate: Elect Guy Reschenthaler :: 10/23/2015

Voters in Pennsylvania's 37th Senatorial District — much of northern, western and southern Allegheny County, plus Peters Township in Washington County — should elect Republican Guy Reschenthaler over Democrat Heather Arnet in a Nov. 3 special election.

Mt. Lebanon Democrat Matt Smith left the seat in June to head the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. To run to succeed him, Mr. Reschenthaler, 32, of Jefferson Hills, resigned from the magisterial district judgeship he won in 2013. Ms. Arnet, 41, of Mt. Lebanon, stepped aside temporarily as Women and Girls Foundation CEO.

Reschenthaler, a real estate attorney in civilian life, volunteered to prosecute terrorists in Baghdad as a Navy Judge Advocate General's lieutenant. His work ethic, legal and judicial experience and background in helping women, senior citizens and students will be assets in the Senate.

Arnet embraces the “liberal” label. Advocating a higher minimum wage and ever more taxpayer dollars for public schools, she would be beholden to the private- and public-sector unions endorsing her. Worse, she tried to deceive voters with an ad claiming Reschenthaler would cut Medicare and Social Security — federal programs beyond the purview of state lawmakers. The ad was bush league.

Harrisburg doesn't need another tax-and-spend Democrat in Heather Arnet. Make Guy Reschenthaler, a young but accomplished Republican, the 37th District's next state senator.
