Georgia Self-Defense: SE Atlanta homeowner shoots intruder, police say :: 10/06/2016
A homeowner shot and critically injured someone who tried to break into his southeast Atlanta home Monday night, Atlanta police said.
Officers responded to the incident on Portland Avenue about 11:30 p.m., Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.
The homeowner told officers he grabbed his gun when he heard the sound of someone breaking into his home through a rear window.
The alleged intruder, Spencer Bohannon, confronted the homeowner, Jones said.
“In fear for his life, (the homeowner) fired one round at him,” she said. “The suspect then ran back to the room he entered in.”
The homeowner followed Bohannon and fired a second round at him, Jones said.
Bohannon, who was struck at least once, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Jones said.
He faces a charge of burglary, Jones said.
Police don’t expect to file charges against the homeowner.
