Kentucky Self-Defense: Homeowner shoots, kills would-be burglar :: 09/17/2016
LOUISVILLE, Ky. —A would-be burglar is dead after a homeowner shot and killed him.
Police said a man broke into a house on East Esplanade Avenue near Iroquois Park.
"We never see this happen in the neighborhood, so it was definitely a surprise and shock when that happened," neighbor Jessica Speaks said.
Investigators said the homeowner didn't know the man who broke into his home.
Police said three people, including an older child were at the home.
Neighbors said they're worried about the safety of their families.
"More than being shaken up, it's reminding me of the fragility of life and just how quickly that can happen. Life can be taken away no matter where you are or who you are," Speaks said.
No charges have been filed against the homeowner.
Police said the case will be handled over for a review by the commonwealth's attorney office.
