Pennsylvania: Feds: Easton man lied to buy guns :: 11/08/2017
An Easton man is charged with lying when he purchased guns from Northampton County firearms dealers last year, allegedly certifying he was buying them for himself when he was planning to give them to others.
Nico Trevorsaya Braden, 28, was indicted Tuesday on three counts of making false statements to a federally licensed firearms dealer. Regulations for federally licensed firearms dealers require buyers to certify they are not acquiring guns on behalf of another person, according to the indictment.
According to the indictment, Braden bought three pistols April 16, 2016, from Heritage Guild in Easton; two pistols May 2, 2016, from John’s Gun and Tackle Room in Palmer Township; and two pistols May 5, 2016, from SARCO Inc. in Easton. In each transaction, Braden allegedly lied about buying the guns for himself when he was actually purchasing the gun on behalf of someone else, the indictment says.
Such practices, called straw purchasing, are a hallmark of gun trafficking and are used to supply guns to individuals who cannot legally buy them for themselves, law enforcement officials say. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Damiani.
