Poll finds that gun control support has receded to pre-Parkland levels :: 05/26/2018

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Wednesday revealed that the spike in support for gun restrictions seen after the February school shooting in Parkland, Florida has since evaporated.

In an online survey conducted between May 5 and 17, pollsters found that 69 percent of American adults who responded supported “strong or moderate regulations or restrictions for firearms.”

By comparison, a poll conducted in late March, some five weeks after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that resulted in the death of 17 and sparked the NeverAgain gun control movement, found that 75 percent of respondents felt the same way. Polling by the group before the high-profile shooting logged support for strong or moderate restrictions at 69 percent.

Similarly, Reuters found support for gun restrictions jumped about 11 percentage points two weeks after the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, rising to 70 percent, only to fall back to pre-shooting levels just three months later.
