Texas Self-Defense: Kaufman County woman fatally shot burglar in self-defense, officials say :: 05/24/2019
A Kaufman County woman who was awoken by a burglar fatally shot the man in self-defense Thursday morning, police say.
The woman called 911 about 9:45 a.m. after she woke up to a man she did not recognize banging on her front door in the 8000 block of FM2757, near Interstate 20 and Malloy Bridge Road.
She called 911 from a locked closet when she heard the back door being kicked in, police said.
The woman stayed on the line with operators until the burglar confronted her, at which point she shot him in self-defense, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jolie Stewart said.
Sheriff's deputies found the man, whose identity hasn't been released, dead in the home.
Texas Rangers and the sheriff's office are investigating.
