Texas Self-Defense: POLICE: Car lot owner chases down, shoots suspects who stole car from his business :: 10/15/2020
DALLAS – Is it self-defense to chase down and shoot alleged vehicle thieves?
This is the question Dallas police officers are contemplating after an early Thursday morning shooting.
Police tell us they were called out to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. in the 8800 block of Old Homestead Dr. in southeast Dallas.
There, they found the owner of La Pulga de Autos, a car lot in town. The owner said he saw suspects steal a vehicle from his lot, just under two miles from where he shot them.
After witnessing the theft, the owner told police he chased them down and shot at them, hitting one in the arm. The suspect shot was taken to the hospital.
Officials say they aren’t sure if any charges will be filed against the business owner, or if it will go down as a self-defense crime.
The stolen vehicle was recovered.
