Trump urges student leaders to stand up 'for your values' :: 07/01/2018
President Trump on Wednesday welcomed over 150 student leaders from colleges across the nation to the White House, urging them to "keep standing up for your values" and to "never quit." “Each of you represent the future of this nation. You aren’t afraid to speak the truth and the truth as you know it, and to stand up for what you know is right, even if it means being politically incorrect on occasion," Trump told attendees at the "Face to Face with our Future" event.
"I’ve been politically incorrect a lot, and here we are. So it's okay, I guess," he added to laughter.
The president also urged them to always "follow your passion and do what you want to do."
"You'll never be successful, unless you get lucky, which could happen, but if you don't love what you're doing, find something else," Trump advised.
The president also used the event to tout his administration's record, which he said had opened new opportunities for young people.
“There’s never been a better time to be young and to be American,” Trump said. "The opportunity now is incredible."
He highlighted his economic policies, including record low unemployment for young people, in particular African-Americans and Hispanics, and the enactment of Republicans' tax reform law.
Trump also spoke about the importance of patriotism, telling attendees to “keep loving your country.”
"You have to believe in protecting the entire Constitution, as written, including the right to free speech and the right to keep and bear arms. Second Amendment," he said.
Trump also took a moment to acknowledge interns from NASA.
“Space is a very big factor in the Trump administration,” he told them.
Trump closed out the address by wishing the attendees well.
"Have a tremendous life," Trump said. "You are off to the best start."
