Dr. Gregg Gorton says the comment was meant to be sarcastic. But he says he'd like to take it back.
Gorton says the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia is reviewing his job status.
He says he's been a psychiatrist for 30 years and employed by the agency for 11 years.
Gorton's comments Tuesday follow a story in The Washington Times.
The hospital has apologized to veterans and called the post "unacceptable."
Gorton says he is not a gun-control activist but has concerns about gun violence.
He was responding to a Facebook user who said he favors gun control - if he can control the gun.
