Wait until you hear Harris-Perry's argument for why cops should support gun control :: 01/04/2016

On a news station full of nuts MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry might be the head cashew.

Melissa Harris-Perry

During a segment on President Obama‘s forthcoming executive actions on gun control Saturday Harris-Perry lamented how black youth need a “separate kind of legal construction to address the violence that they might perpetrate in the world because they’re living under this kind of mental constant threat and belief of death. Not even primarily at the hands of police, but at the hands of guns generally.”

Harris-Perry tried to explain to her panel, including Jon Shane, an associate professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, that police should favor gun control more than anyone because they have a fear that everyone might be armed.

“I presume some part of it is that these police officers think that this kid might be armed because we think everybody might be armed. Shouldn’t officers be the number one folks behind gun control?” she said.

“Well, you do have a lot of Second Amendment officers. I happen to favor carrying a gun myself,” Shane replied. “I don’t think there’s much wrong with it. The reality is how are we going to keep the illegal guns away from people? It’s a very easy thing to do to keep guns.”

That’s when Harris-Perry made her dumbest statement of the segment.

“A lot of people shoot their wives with perfectly legal guns,” she said.

Shane was left dumbfounded at the idiocy of that statement but did manage to explain that the president’s new gun control measures wouldn’t include confiscating guns and would only make it tougher for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves.
